Hi!As a licensed esthetician and the owner of a medical spa, I get this question all the time. It can be confusing to people who have oily skin AND dry skin….doesn't seem to make sense, but really it does.First, many people with oily skin go overboard trying to "dry out" the oil, and in doing so, actually CAUSE areas of their face to become dry and flaky. So the first thing I recommend is to look at what you are doing now and analyze the products you have. Try not to be too aggressive with products that strip your skin of needed oils and hydration. Don't use products with a lot of alcohol, this will dry your skin out and fast!Secondly, you will want to lightly exfoliate your skin daily. This will help keep your pores unclogged, and will slough off that dead flaky skin, allowing new fresh skin to the surface.Find a moisturizer made for oily skin and use it at night before bed.your routine should be, cleanse your skin with a gel based cleanser, this will remove dirt, oil and makeup from the day. Then use a light exfoliator, maybe a soft bristle face brush with your gel cleanser, or a light scrub (not one with nuts, they can make micro tears in the skin) some with exfoliating beads or a mild glycolic acid. After your cleanse and exfoliate, apply your moisturizer. Start off with a little, you can always add more.In the morning, cleanse your skin and lightly moisturize. Wait a few minutes, then apply your make up.As far as makeup, mineral makeup is going to be the best for oily skin. The natural oils will "heat" the minerals and actually can help you skin in many many ways. Just be sure to get a mineral makeup that is pure minerals, without added talc. Jane Iredale is the original and one of the best, great color selection and lots of different types of products, it's a full line. Glo Minerals is another one that is really nice. There are many on the market, just read the labels and be sure there is no talc. Talc can clog pores and cause irritation.Good luck!!!! Source(s): licensed esthetician and medspa owner
