Are most cancers genetic?
My wife and I have alot of cancer on both sides of the family. Hers – MIL with breast cancer, uncle with testicular cancer, grandfather with pancreatic, half sister with Hodkin's. She had cervical cancer but it was taken care of fast and she's fine now. Mine – dad with stomach cancer, and now my aunt has skin cancer. What of this is genetic? We have a 5 and 3 year old and are expecting a boy in May. I'm just scared with our lousy genes our kids are going to get sick.

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Hereditary cancer is rare – fewer than 10% of all cancer cases are hereditary. Cancer diagnosed after the age of 50 is even less likely to be hereditary.Several members of your extended family having had different types of cancer is NOT hereditary.A sign that cancer MAY be hereditary is when several members of the same side of a family have had the SAME type of cancer (eg all had breast cancer), especially if some developed it at a younger than usual age. With one in two men and one in three women developing cancer over a lifetime of 80+ years, it is an unusual extended family that doesn't have a few cases of non-hereditary cancer in its history, especially among members over 60.It doesn't mean your, or your wife's or children's risk of cancer is increased; based on the information you've given here, it isn'tIn my own family, two of my grandparents died of cancer. Both my parents had cancer and my mother died of it. So did my aunt, my uncle and my cousin. None of their cancers were hereditary, and no members of my immediate or extended family have ever been considered at increased risk of any of the cancers they had.Of my parents' 6 children, now aged from late 40s to early 60s, I am the only one who has developed cancer, and mine too is non-hereditary and unconnected to theirs
It seems to be at times but in reality I don't really think so. Everyone is born with precancerous cells in their body and it just depends on whether or not they grab and hold somewhere. As sad as it is, no one relay knows for sure.My mom has had cancer in her eye and I have been fighting precancerous cells my whole life.My aunt had cancer in her throat, from the years of smoking but that is it.I have been to many specialists and they all tell me the same thing, none of it is connected. My husbands mom just got rid of cancer that she had and is now cancer free. There are so many different types that it makes my head spin, but what do you do? My was and is on my cervix and under my doctors recommendation I got my daughter the Gardisil shot series….If you really want to know why don't you go and ask a specialist because they will know a lot more than us what the chance are.
I know this may sound weird but I think I know what i am talking about. You should try to eat more vegetables, fruits and nuts.Try to stay away from meats.Red meat,Pork and Chicken.Eat fish instead. And try to make up the majority of your diet with non animal products.I believe that will help you in your fight against cancers. Also, try to remain calm throughout life. That plays a big part as well.Take care and Happy New Year.
Most cancer is random…However it has been proven that your chances are higher if people in your family have cancer.. so there is some gentic link. I knew a family where the grandmother, mother, and all 3 daughters got breast cancer. So clearly there are links.
