Any experiences with pencil lead under skin?

Many years ago, I got a little splinter in my hand and I can still see it there lodged under the skin, dormant. It looks like a tiny beauty mark, so people don't believe me when I tell them it is a splinter. This time (yesterday) it was a bigger piece of pencil lead that went under the skin on the bottom of my right pinky finger. If this has happened to anyone else, is the lead still there, visible under your skin? It doesn't look too good, but I don't really mind it THAT much, but I was just curious.
