A few ringworm questions.?
So I take in this stray kitten who gave me ringworm…I have a softball sized area on my leg, (I have very sensitive skin and for about a month I thought it was razor rash because it appeared the day after I shaved after months of waxing only.) So after a month I got a little spot on my side, and long story short I realized it was ringworm. I have been using the Walgreen's version of Lotriman (I dont know how to spell it), every morning four the past four days, and at night Ive been dabbing tea tree oil on it.
I read that heat can sort of incubate it so does that mean I shouldn't use my electric blanket until its cleared up? Also the medications directions say for athlete's foot apply twice a day and for ringworm apply once a day, but I dont understand this because its the same fungi, would it be ok to apply twice? Im afraid that my jeans wipe it off even when I let it dry. How long is it contagious for? I know it takes what seems like forever to heal, but surly on with the medication it dies a lot sooner than it heals?
Also is there anything I can do for the dry skin or is lotion a bad idea?
And any suggestions on some way to calm the itching? sometimes its so unbearable!
Any other care tips would be great too.
Thanks!

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters How do u know that you have ringworm, would be my first question to you. Did you do a skin scraping to find the fungi, under the microscope? There are other "ringed" disorders, that are mistaken for ringworm, and obviously won't respond to antifungal medicine. In additon, not all strains of fungi are responsive to all antifungal creams. The Lotrimin is formulated to be best against the human strains of fungi, and not so good against animal strains. In additon, four days is fairly quick to expect to see clearing of such a lesion. So, it sounds as if you might have a few aspects of the problem to clear up before you be clear of your rash. Have you seen a dermatologist to help you out of this maze?
Check with the pharmacist at Walgreen's and see what he says. You shouldn't have the itching at this time if the cream is working right. Maybe you are right and the cream is being wiped off by your jeans. See if it's possible to cover it while it's working.
